About Me

History and purpose

Hello, my name is Graham Fife, or McDuff on the forums.

I am passionate about discovering, preserving and now publishing the history that I have discovered behind

the World War 2 USMC UNIS marking system on personally worn Marine fatigues.

I am no expert or historian. I am an amateur enthusiast! I am not American and I am not a former or serving Marine.

I present this website to honour the brave Marines of WW2 to whom I respect and admire.

THIS IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, SO NOT COMPLETE, BUT HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR A YEAR NOW.

TO SEE THE COLLECTION AND ENTER THE SITE PLEASE CLICK ON THE HORIZONTAL BARS TOP LEFT OF THIS PAGE

There may be errors in my research, and I welcome any feedback.

Thanks to my friend Garry for helping enormously with the photographs!

Gratitude to my buddy Marcin for enthusiastically supporting and encouraging my idea for this!

...and to my family for my home neglect whilst engrossed with this hobby.....

Learning and preserving

All of my examples are original and some named. I am constantly researching the named utilities to recognise and preserve the historical significance and personal bravery of each Marine.

I am always looking to purchase any original examples.

Sharing

I share my personal collection with the aim to preserve the memory of the individuals who wore these fatigues. The UNIS subject covers all 6 Marine Divisions, but only two Divisions widely used the UNIS marking on fatigues - the 4th and 5th Marine Divisions. There are other

'Tactical markings' for various units, of which I have some examples. Although not strictly UNIS, they are of interest to me and sit with this subject. Also, some Army Divisions used similar markings in the Pacific, but these are not investigated here - but are admired also!

I am currently collating information on the 2nd and 3rd Marine Division Tactical markings. My lists are derived from original examples of marked uniforms and gear I have seen. I still have not found an official document for these Divisions.
